What Personal Defense Weapon is Best for the Home

Recently I conducted a personal defense seminar specifically discussing personal defense spray, the C2 Taser, and Stun Guns for a group of men and women all interested in protecting themselves and their families. One question that kept coming up was what personal defense weapon is the best to have in the house where young curious children reside? Is a Gun, Taser, Personal Defense Spray, or some other product the best choice?

The best way to answer the question is this. All personal defense weapons are made with one purpose and we all know that is to provide protections to individuals who possess them. That being said, each of them requires training. The level of training depends on 1) what item is being used, 2) The user’s comfort level in handling the item, 3) Their ability to identify a true and credible threat upon their health and safety.

In my seminars, I remind my audience to keep in mind that if they choose to arm themselves with a firearm, the results of their use is always has a permanent result. Weather the result is scaring, internal organ damage, or death.

In my opinion, those who have children in their homes should keep all personal defense weapons secure at all times but readily available for use if they are needed. Remember, a personal defense weapon is only effective if it is used. Purchasing an item for personal protection and leaving it locked in the glove box of a vehicle is not a good practice to get into. You need to have the item in your possession in the event you need to use it.

Children are naturally curious and learn from the results of their curiosity. As adults, we are all responsible for keeping a safe environment for our children by not allowing access to personal defense weapons until the child is mature enough to understand how to use them, that they are not toys, and the results they are capable of providing. All of these factors need to be considered when choosing a personal defense weapon for home protection.

Items such as the Taser C2, Stun Guns, and Personal Defense Spray are very effective but they all have their own pros and cons. However, they all have something in common which are no prolonged effects on their intended or accidental target. The same cannot be said of a firearm, the results are far too often devastating injuries and in some cases death.

It is for this reason I feel strongly that non-lethal personal defense are a better choice for parents, individuals with limited knowledge of firearms, and those who are not comfortable using a firearm. Misuse of firearms or the lack of knowledge often times lead to accidental discharges and injuries which could have been avoided.

The best way to determine which product is the best choice for each person is to first explain the pros and the cons of each weapon; and then go from there to match them up to the specific individual.

Pepper spray, also known as personal defense spray or MACE, is a common personal defense weapon that is inexpensive and easy to use. It is 10% solution of cayenne pepper. The active ingredient is oleoresin capsicum or OC. It attacks the mucous membranes causes tearing, intense eye pain and even temporary blindness. It comes in variety of sizes and applications (fog, stream, foam). They are all concealable and hide easily in a purse or pocket.

PRO’s

Inexpensive, easy to use, easy to conceal are capable of bringing most attackers to their knees rendering them helpless for up to 45 minutes.

CON’s

Limited amount of uses, target specific to the face and eyes, and have a risk of self contamination of the user.

The Taser C2 is by far the best personal defense alternative available on the market today. Capable of delivering a 30 second cycle of 50,000 volt’s of shaped pulse technology to your attacker from up to 15 feet away. The Taser C2 has been tested by law enforcements who determined it has the same stopping power of a 9mm handgun but does not leave long term injuries to the attacker. The Taser C2 deploys 2 darts attached to the Taser by conductive wires and is designed to be left behind by the victim if it has to be used and is backed by a lifetime guarantee by filing a police report if used. We will replace the Taser free of charge in the event you ever have to use it. Your life is worth more than the cost of replacing you personal defense weapon. (Please refer to the below list of Cities and States who have restrictions on Electronic Control Devises).

PRO’S

Backed by a lifetime replacement guarantee, Deployed from 15 feet away keeping the attacker at a distance, has the ability to be used up to 50 times with each Lithium Power Magazine, comes in a variety of colors.

CON’S

Requires a felony background check which costs $9.95 to be completed on the user for activation. Some restrictions, illegal in several states (check your local law enforcement)

Stun Guns are an effective personal defense alternative. They are available in a variety of sizes and voltages. Ranging anywhere between 350,000 to 4.5 million volts of electricity, they are capable of knocking an attacker to the ground. Stun guns are available in a variety of sizes and shapes; such as cell phones, pens and even a lipstick! They are simple to use and more suited for hands on situations when an attacker gets inside your comfort zone.

PRO’S

Stun Guns are inexpensive, easy to use, and come in a variety of appearances as discussed above.

CON’S

Illegal in several states, limited by the life of the batteries, and you have to be close personal contact with your attacker and apply the shock directly to his or her body. I feel this is a big factor to consider. No attacker should be allowed close enough to use a Stun Gun, this is a bad situation.

Any of the other 50 states are legal to possess a stun gun however you should check with your local law enforcement regarding their restrictions before purchasing a Stun Gun.

Choosing the right personal defense weapon is an important decision. You should evaluate your own personal needs like your lifestyle, what you want out of the product, and your training and background.
