Defense Spray, Cheap Insurance into Your Personal Safety

As career law enforcement, I commonly hear victims ask why they were attacked and that it had never happened to them before.  Remember, most victims were never victimized until they day they became a victim.  Defense spray is a cheap non-lethal force alternative and insurance policy into your personal health.  Don’t wait; buy a personal defense alternative today, your life may depend on it.

People are turning to defense spray as non-lethal force alternatives for personal protection.  Defense spray is composed from the extract of real peppers. Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) is the chief chemical compound used in it. OC is available in three concentrations: 1%, 5%, and 10%, and 18%. In addition, the spray comes in three patterns, (Stream, Fog, and Gel).  Determining what application you need depends on your specific needs.

Application Styles

Stream application style has the longest effective range of all of them. Although it might be less effective due to the target specific necessity, it has a terrific range of 15-20 feet.  The stream style gives the potential victim the ability to deploy the defense spray from a distance which in turn keeps the attacker away from hands on scenario.

Fog application styles have finer droplets and are quite effective. These are found to be more effective than stream styles due to their ability to cover a wider target when deployed. The range of the fog application is reduced to 10 to 15 feet depending on the weather conditions; however a word of caution applies here, you run the risk of self contamination due to the fog pattern being a mist.

Foam application styles available as well. Foam application is designed for close quarter contact and sticks to the attacker like a foam. Foam applications are the most effective of the three sprays due to their ability to stick to the assailant. Winds have no impact on them.

How Defense Spray’s Work

Tasers and defense sprays have become popular items for personal protection against an attacker. The chemical present in the sprays is inflammatory. When it comes in contact with eyes, throat, nose, and lung, it hits the mucous membranes present in them and leads to instant capillary dilation. This makes the entire affected areas swell. The stronger concentration may even lead to temporary blindness or restriction of breathing for up to 45 minutes. This is enough to weaken your assailant and give the victim plenty of time to seek help.

The best way to use a pepper spray is to aim at the attacker's face. Your attacker will become incapacitated for sufficient time so you can get help. Besides this, defense sprays are considered non-lethal force alternatives and only have temporary effects on your assailant.

Defense sprays do not require a permit to carry as a personal defense alternative; however, there are some federal, state, and local restrictions on their use.  If you are seeking to purchase defense spray as a personal defense alternative and you live in New York, Michigan, Massachusetts or Wisconsin, check with your local law enforcement before purchasing a defense spray.
